12 Oct CBD for Pets
There’s no doubt about it, pets are members of our families. Heck, some owners even refer to their pets as their “children” and treat them accordingly! We all want our furry friends to be healthy, happy, and safe. But can you give CBD servings to Fido and Fluffy? Yes you can and they’ll probably wait all day at the door waiting for you to get home to give them their daily CBD. Well, Fido will at least!
Supplement Your Pet’s Diet With CBD Hemp Oil.
Animals can benefit from CBD oil the same way humans do. That’s because all mammals, perhaps all vertebrates, have an endocannabinoid system, the bodily system that interacts with cannabinoids, meaning that your pet can benefit from CBD in the same ways as you.
Hemp’s benefits come from the plant’s ability to interact with the body’s naturally occurring regulatory processes, managed by the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for maintaining homeostasis within the body, including regulating the body’s immune response, communication between cells, and appetite and metabolism. Because of this clear link between the systems of humans and other mammals, some owners have recently begun giving cannabis-infused products to their pets.
However, veterinarians are split on whether CBD should be used for pets, much as doctors are with the use of cannabis in humans. A lack of research prevents pet organizations from endorsing CBD for pets, but veterinarians are now starting to acknowledge cannabis’s potential.
Pet owners and veterinarians who do choose to treat their pets with cannabis typically use products derived from hemp because it is high in CBD without exposing pets to the psychoactive effects of THC. Several of HempMeds’® products are useful for adding CBD to your pet’s diets, including our Real Scientific Hemp Oil™ (RSHO™) pure CBD hemp oils, tinctures, and liquids.
Suggesting Serving Size Of CBD For Your Pet
Some of our customers already give their pets our CBD hemp oil products, but remember, serving sizes between humans and pets will differ, mostly based on size. Use this serving size suggestion chart to help you gauge how much to add to your pet’s diet:
To start, we suggest a serving size of: 1 mg – 5 mg per 10 lbs. of body weight. Start on the low end and work your way up depending on how your pet reacts.
1 – 5mg
|10 lbs||20 lbs||30 lbs||40 lbs||50 lbs||60 lbs||70 lbs||80 lbs|
|1 – 5mg||2 – 10mg||3 – 15mg||4 – 20mg||5 – 25mg||6 – 30mg||7 – 35mg||8 – 40mg|
HempMeds is by no means a veterinarian and we offer these serving suggestions as merely that: suggestions. We also recommend you do more homework on the internet and speak with your family vet about how much and how often CBD can be added to your animal’s diet.
How To Give CBD Oil To Your Pet
RSHO™ Pure CBD Hemp Oil: RSHO™ pure hemp oils can be dispensed onto your finger and given to your pet to lick off, placed on a treat, or mixed into their food. Because our RSHO™ pure hemp oil contains a high concentration of CBD, it is best to start off small and increase serving sizes every week or two. Many pet owners prefer to use our Green Label RSHO™ due to its minimal processing and balanced levels of CBD and CBDa.
RSHO™ Tinctures: Similarly, our RSHO™ unflavored tinctures may be added to your pet’s food or administered directly into their mouth. Our tinctures have a low concentration of CBD, making them helpful in measuring out small hemp oil servings.
RSHO™ Liquids: Our CBD hemp oil liquids combine our pure CBD hemp oil with medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil. This convenient liquid can easily be added to your pet’s food. However, for a creative way to add CBD hemp oil to your pet’s diet, try making them custom CBD pet treats.
By making these treats at home with our CBD hemp oil, you know exactly what is in your pet’s diet and can easily add your desired quantity of CBD. The recipe below makes approximately sixty treats with about 0.65 mg of CBD each.
- 1 teaspoon of RSHO™ liquid
- 2/3 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil
- 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
– Whisk together peanut butter, honey, RSHO™, coconut oil and chicken broth.
– In a separate bowl, combine flours and oats.
– Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
– Place dough on flour dusted surface.
– Roll or press dough out to about 1/4” inch thick.
– Using a 2” cookie cutter to shape treats, put cut out treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
– Roll out leftover scraps and cut out as many treats as possible.
– Bake for 14-16 minutes, transfer to a cooling rack after baking.
– Makes approx. 60 treats.
First off all, our CBD oil products contain virtually no THC, the pshycoactive compound found in marijuana that gets users “high.” You will not be getting your pets stoned!
We go above and beyond industry standards to ensure the safest, best quality products for our customers, including their pets. Safety is our top priority, and that’s why use a stringent CO2 extraction and extensive testing throughout the entire process. You should never be uncertain about what you’re giving your animal, and it pays to do your homework. When we started HempMeds® in 2012, standardized testing procedures for cannabinoid products didn’t exist—so we went out and created them.
Regardless of how you give CBD hemp oil to your pet, because our products are Triple Lab Tested™ for both safety and potency, you can trust that our CBD hemp oil supplements are consistent in their strength and free from contaminants like mold and mildew, microbes, chemicals, and heavy metals.
Triple Lab Tested for Safety and Quality
Our hemp is first tested by our cultivators in Europe periodically throughout the growing season and again after harvest and extraction. This allows our growers to maintain optimal cannabinoid content for our hemp oil supplements and check for any residual contaminants. Despite cultivating our hemp free of herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers, we carefully inspect our oil after harvest for anything that can negatively impact the quality of our products.
Second, the oil is tested when it arrives in the US after being shipped from Europe. Once our hemp oil is imported into the U.S., it is tested once again by ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited testing labs to check for consistent ratios of CBD and to verify the safety of our oil after its journey across the Atlantic. These labs test our hemp oil for the concentration of cannabinoids, including CBD, CBDa, CBG, THC, and over a half dozen others, as well as testing for mold, mildew, fungus, yeast, E.coli, Salmonella, Mycotoxins, heavy metals, and residual solvents to protect the end user from any contamination.
Finally, after our hemp oil is sent to our California-based formulators, who are certified as using Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for foods and supplements, ensuring consistently produced and quality controlled final products. Here our hemp oil is crafted into our wide range of CBD hemp oil supplements – after which we batch test our finished products to once again verify that they will be safe and consistent for all our customers. Samples from each batch of the final products are tested again for cannabinoid content and a final safety check.
Let HempMeds® become Your Trusted Source™ for CBD for all the members of your family – even the furry ones.
