Myth #1 – Hemp and marijuana are the same plant

Actually this depends. If you think about the plant species, they are exactly the same. But they do have characteristic differences: their chemical composition.

As released in the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (Farm Bill), hemp is considered “the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, (…), whether growing or not, with a delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration of not more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis”.

Where as, the marijuana plant holds a THC content higher than 0.3%, which is the cause for the mind altering “high” after consuming it in various forms. The concentration of the compound can reach up to 30%. Although marijuana also has therapeutic and medical benefits, it is best known for its recreational use.

Myth #2 – Hemp CBD oil gets you high

Many get confused by this as they believe hemp and marijuana have the same chemical compound properties. This is false!

With the very low 0.3% THC content found in the hemp plant, it usually holds higher amounts of cannabidiol (CBD) which does not create the same mind-altering effects such as THC.

CBD does not trigger the cannabinoid receptor type-1 (CB1), the most abundant cannabinoid receptor in the central nervous system which delivers different results and effects like seen in marijuana use.

Since CBD oil products are derived from hemp which provide naturally low THC content. HempMeds only produces hemp plants and oil that generate high-quality CBD.

Myth #3 – Hemp oil is the same as CBD oil

This is tricky. It’s important to first understand the overall concept: CBD oil is a type of hemp oil, but not all hemp oil is CBD oil. Get it?

The term “hemp oil” describes any and all oil that is extracted from any part of the hemp plant, like stalks, flowers, and seeds. It’s important to know that all hemp oil is derived from the hemp plant, but there are different types depending on which part of the plant they’re extracted from, and their purpose. CBD oil is one of them. Other types of hemp oil for example is hemp seed oil, which does not have any relevant amount of cannabinoids at all, but is rich in vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and -6, soluble fibers, making it a great food ingredient.

CBD oil is found to be thicker and made from the flowering parts of the hemp plant that contains very high levels of CBD.  With more than 120 cannabinoids found in Cannabis plant, it has now become highly desirable. CBD interacts with the body through the endocannabinoid system in an indirect manner, a signaling switchboard that regulates many of our body’s functions.
