Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie with Hemp Seeds

Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie (shutterstock_178848524)Hemp seeds are considered a complete protein, are high in fiber and are a good source of the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6. When you add hemp seeds to your smoothies, not only do they add a number of natural benefits, but they help to thicken the smoothie’s consistency so that it’s similar to a milkshake. Therefore, they’re perfect to add when in the smoothies that you’d prefer to be on the thicker side, such as the case when making this mint chocolate chip smoothie.

This mint chocolate chip smoothie tastes like something you’d happily have for dessert, but because it offers the natural benefits of hemp milk and hemp seeds, and contains bananas, which are high in fiber, potassium and vitamin A, and spirulina powder, which is high in protein, there’s nothing preventing it from also serving as a healthy breakfast.

Ingredients:

1-2 tablespoons hemp milk
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
3 bananas, frozen
1 ½ tablespoons dark chocolate chips
1 teaspoon spirulina powder
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
3 iced cubes

Throw the hemp milk, hemp seeds, bananas and iced cubes into a food processor and blend at high until the mixture is smooth. Next, add in the dark chocolate chips, spirulina powder and peppermint abstract and blend for another 10 to 20 seconds. Pour the entire mixture into your glass or cup to serve. Sprinkle a couple of dark chocolate chips and hemp seeds on the top of your smoothie.

If you don’t have a food processor, you can get away with using a blender. Blenders work perfectly well for most smoothies, but a food processor works best for this particular one because of its thickness. If you do need to use a blender, you’ll likely just need to add a couple more tablespoons of hemp milk to thoroughly blend all the ingredients.
